Ditch Your Glasses and See the Alarm Clock Clearly Again

12/27/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

There are many different benefits to having your vision permanently corrected through LASIK eye surgery. One of the main benefits is the ability to be able to see first thing in the morning.
People who wear glasses often complain that they have difficulty seeing when they first wake up. They often fumble around and knock things over while looking for their glasses. After LASIK surgery, however, you’ll never have to do this again.
When you wake up in the morning, you’ll be able to see the alarm clock clearly without squinting or reaching for your glasses. You’ll never wonder what time it is in the middle of the night, and you’ll never have to stumble to the kitchen for a glass of water again without being able to see.
When you set up a consultation with Dr. William Boothe at Boothe Laser Center, he will discuss your options for surgical vision correction. Contact him for an appointment today, and your blurry vision can soon be a thing of the past.

Alternatives to LASIK for Permanent Vision Correction

12/25/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

LASIK eye surgery has been around for many years now and Dr. William Boothe has been performing the procedure at Boothe Laser Center since it was approved by the FDA. There have been many technological advances in recent years that have made LASIK even safer and more available to more patients. These include the IntraLASIK procedure, and Wavefront mapping.
There are some people, however, that are simply not good candidates for LASIK. For instance, people with a thin cornea, large pupils, or people that have extremely bad eyesight are often unable to have LASIK. However, for those people, there are other forms of vision correction surgery that may work.
One procedure is called PRK. PRK is similar to LASIK, but without cutting a flap in the cornea. This procedure can work well for people who have an uneven cornea, or have a cornea that is too thin for the LASIK flap.
With new technology, many people that couldn’t consider vision correction surgery years ago are now candidates for one of the procedures available today. If you are interested in correcting your vision permanently, but think you may not be a candidate for LASIK, you should make an appointment to speak to Dr. William Boothe at Boothe Laser Center. Dr. Boothe regularly reviews the latest technology available for eye surgery. He will be able to advise you if you qualify for one of the other procedures available.

Expect a Short Recovery Time After LASIK Surgery

12/20/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

LASIK vision surgery is a simple outpatient procedure to correct your blurry eyesight. It generally only takes a few minutes per eye to complete. After the surgery, you may be worried about how much downtime to expect. Do you have time to recover from a surgical procedure and still keep up with your busy life?

Fortunately, it doesn’t take long to recover after LASIK. The day of your surgery, you won’t want to go back to work after the procedure. You may feel some dryness and discomfort in your eyes for the rest of the day. However, most people find that they have clearer vision within a few hours. Some people even go back to work the next day, although Dr. Boothe at Boothe Laser Center recommends that you wait two days before returning to work. For most people, that’s all the recovery time that they need.

Any further questions you have about the LASIK procedure can be reviewed during your consultation at Boothe Laser Center. Dr. William Boothe and the rest of the staff want you to feel comfortable with your decision. They will take the time to discuss every aspect of the procedure.

Contact lenses are convenient way to correct your vision. If you have complaints about not being able to see well with glasses, contacts may be the way for you to go. However, they also have their own problems.

Cure Your Problems with Contacts by Getting LASIK Vision Surgery

12/18/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

People that live in a dry or semi-arid climate often have problems wearing contact lenses. The air can cause your eyes to feel dried out, and contacts may contribute to the problem. If you have blurry vision, though, you need some sort of vision correction. You can opt to wear glasses instead of contacts. However, glasses have problems of their own. They can smudge, smear, scratch, get broken, or get lost.
You don’t have to feel stuck with either contacts or glasses. There is one way to solve all of your vision correction problems and see clearly again. With LASIK eye surgery, you can permanently correct your vision. LASIK eye surgery is a simple procedure that involves cutting a flap in the cornea and using a laser to reshape your eye. Millions of people have had this done over the years, and while there are some risks, there is a low rate of complications.
However, before you can have eye surgery, you must have a consultation with a surgeon. Dr. William Boothe at Boothe Laser Center is one of the most experienced eye surgeons in the world. He has been performing laser eye surgery since the 1990s, and has performed over 121,000 LASIK procedures. Come in for a consultation to review your questions about the procedure, and talk to Dr. Boothe about LASIK surgery to correct your vision.

Don’t Suffer Through Allergy Eyes with Contacts or Glasses

12/13/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

Do you suffer from red, itchy, watery eyes? If so, you may have allergies. Allergies can affect you during the spring or fall due to the pollen in the air. Many people also suffer year-round, because they are allergic to pet dander and dust. Allergies will commonly make your eyes red and watery, and feel itchy.
This can affect you if you need vision correction. Eye allergies can make it difficult or uncomfortable to wear contacts. You can take antihistamines for your allergies, but they may dry out your eyes, which will also make your contacts uncomfortable. You can wear glasses, but many people find them uncomfortable, too. When you have complaints about eye allergies, corrective lenses can just make your eyes feel worse.
If you need eye correction but suffer from allergy and itchy eyes, you may want to consider permanent vision correction. LASIK eye surgery is one way to permanently correct your vision. While it won’t cure your allergy, you may find that not having contacts will make your eyes feel better. If you’re interested in LASIK surgery, schedule your free consultation at Boothe Laser Center. Dr. Boothe will review your medical history, and discuss whether or not LASIK is right for you.

Children’s Eye Care

12/06/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

The development of your children’s eyes is very important, especially during the early years. A lot of parents don’t find out that their child has eye problems until at a later age (usually elementary school). Great vision is necessary for learning – about 80% of learning in school requires you to have good vision. Between two and five years old, your child’s are becoming fine-tuned. Unfortunately, some children’s eyes don’t develop as well as others. This is why it’s necessary to get eye checkups at places like the Boothe eye care center.

Signs that Your Child has Visions Problems
Watch out for these common signs that your child may have problems with his or her eyes:

• Has a short attention span for his or her age
• Isn’t able to correctly identify colors, shapes, numbers and letters
• Is always squinting his or her eyes
• Sits very close to the television or reads close to books
• Doesn’t have proper hand and body coordination

If you see that your child is having these issues, you can make an appointment with Dr. William Boothe.

Can’t I Just Go On Wearing Glasses?

11/27/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

This is the question many people ask when they consult with Dr. Boothe about Lasik surgery. The answer is, yes, of course, you can do that, but the purpose of Lasik surgery is to correct vision defects permanently so that you don’t have to.

Some people are put off by any surgery at all. They react with a certain amount of squeamishness when they learn that at the Boothe Laser Center, they’ll have a piece of their eyes cut away with a laser. That’s why many people opt out of Lasik surgery—they don’t understand what really happens.

Yes, the laser cuts away eye tissue. However, what it cuts away is the part that keeps you from seeing well. Not everyone’s corneas have the right shape. Lasik surgery fixes that. When you visit the Boothe Eye Care Center, you’ll receive a full explanation of your vision impairment – as well as what causes it and what can be done to correct it. You may want to continue wearing glasses, which do deal with the problem, but consider this: Would you rather deal with the problem or eliminate it altogether?

Can Lasik Surgery Help the Elderly?

11/22/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

The answer to this question is: definitely, yes. The Boothe Laser Center treats adult patients of all ages. Many patients who are in their seventies (or older) have reported substantial improvements in their vision after Lasik surgery.

There might be a lingering perception that eye surgery to correct corneal defects is not as likely to be successful for the elderly. As people grow older, their corneas can lose elasticity. However, recent advancements in refractive surgery can compensate for this condition. Dr. Boothe is experienced in treating patients of all adult ages.

As a person grows older, it is important to think about how vision care can improve quality of life. While a person may be used to wearing glasses or contacts, the fact remains that they can be a nuisance. If a person—elderly or otherwise—doesn’t want the hassle of eyeglass prescriptions, which often have to be changed every few years, then Lasik surgery at the Boothe Eye Center is an alternative to consider. As eyesight deteriorates with age, the restoration of eyesight to the condition the patient enjoyed earlier in life can be a tremendous morale booster. It can also greatly improve the elderly patient’s quality of life.

At What Age Can People Have Laser Eye Surgery?

11/13/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

To be eligible for laser eye surgery, people have to be a certain age. This is because the eyes of young people are still growing and need to be fully developed before they can be surgically corrected. If the surgery was to happen before their eyes are fully formed, then the effects of the surgery could be negated or there might be other eye issues caused. The procedure isn’t as dangerous for teenagers as it is for the elderly in some cases, but laser eye correction is still not recommended for people in their teens. At Boothe Eye Care, they prefer that their patients be at least 18 years old with relatively healthy eyes. Even at 18, the eye is still developing. If a patient’s vision is still getting worse at 18, they should wait a few more years until their vision is no longer changing.

For people who want eye surgery, but their eyes are getting worse at a consistent rate, it’s best to hold off on surgery. That way, they can monitor how often their contact or glasses prescription change. For people with extremely poor vision and eye problems, their eyes might change until they are twenty-five or older. At The Boothe laser center, they need to make sure that their patient’s eyes won’t change again and make a second surgery necessary.

Are the Benefits of Lasik Surgery Permanent?

11/08/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

In most cases, yes. However, for all of us, vision deteriorates with age. Even Lasik-treated eyes will lose acuity over time. Approximately 15% of Lasik patients have a second Lasik procedure done at some time after the first surgery. Dr. William Boothe will, of course, do the best and most professional job possible, but at times, patients are not satisfied with the results. The good news is that Lasik can almost always be repeated with little risk. Many former Lasik patients choose to have the procedure done once more later in life.

The Boothe Laser Center treats patients of all adult ages. The older the patient, the sooner he or she may notice decrease in vision acuity due to the natural aging process. However, with or without Lasik surgery, the process will occur. Without surgery, the deterioration will be that much greater. Lasik can help most people’s vision, even if they are in the later stages of life. The Boothe Eye Care Center can evaluate your prospects and determine if Lasik surgery is right for you.

Are Eye Floaters Serious?

10/30/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

Do you ever see spots or flashes in front of your eyes, even when there’s no light there? These flashes are known as floaters. This is a problem that grows as you get older, as your eye’s vitreous gel begins to thicken and get smaller. When this happens, clumps or strands form in the eye, which are seen as floaters.

Is this a Serious Problem?
Depending on how it all turns out, which varies by individual, it could end up being a big problem. If the gel in the eye ends up pulling away from your eye’s wall, it could tear your retina. This would then lead to bleeding in the eye. When this happens, it’s important to set an appointment with Dr. Boothe at the Boothe laser center to get proper treatment.

Other Symptoms
It’s very common for other symptoms to present themselves when you have eye floaters, and this can include loss of vision in the entire eye or on the sides. If you don’t treat the torn retina right away, it could lead to it becoming detached.

Some Floaters Aren’t Serious
On the other hand, there are some floaters that aren’t a problem and usually go away over time. These can be annoying and scare some people, but in some cases nothing dangerous will happen. However, if you notice floaters for years on end, you should make an appointment at the Boothe eye care center to get checked out.

After Your Lasik Surgery

10/25/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

As with any surgery, the incision needs to heal. This should not take an excessively long time, and will vary from patient to patient. The patient can speed recovery time by treating the eyes as one would any area that is healing from trauma. The Boothe Laser Center prescribes antibiotic and anti-inflammatory eye drops to prevent post-surgery irritation. The patient should wear dark glasses or eye shields to prevent excessive pupil dilation.

Dry eyes are the most commonly reported symptoms post-surgery, and Dr. William Boothe recommends that protective goggles be worn during sleep so that the patient does not inadvertently rub his eyes, which could damage the incised and healing areas. In addition to the eye drops, artificial tears can help with the dry eye problem.

In general, the Boothe Eye Care Center recommends that the Lasik patient rest and allow the eyes to heal. It is best to allow several days for this process, during which it is best not to put any unnecessary strain on the eyes. In particular, the patient should not return to a routine of office work for several days. It is always a good idea after any surgery not to use the afflicted area too much; in this case, it is imperative to avoid straining the newly healed eyes.

Does LASIK Surgery Hurt?

After all, you rely on your vision to help you do almost everything, including work, play, and spending time with your family. You don’t want to take any risks with your eyesight.

Consider IntraLASIK for Stress-Free Surgery

10/11/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

If you’ve had blurry vision for a while, you’re all too familiar with the discomforts and complaints about glasses and contacts. You know that you can permanently correct your eyesight with LASIK surgery, but you might be nervous about having it done. After all, the media has made a big deal over the few lawsuits that have been filed over the years when there were complications. Is it really safe?
It’s important to remember that all surgical procedures carry some risk. LASIK is no exception, though the chance of complications is very low. However, you do have an additional option to cut the risk of complications even further.

IntraLASIK is basically the same procedure as LASIK, with one important difference: the flap in the cornea is cut with a laser, instead of a blade. By using the precision laser, the risk of an error while cutting the flap is reduced even further. Knowing this brings great peace of mind to many patients and is the incentive they need to go ahead with the procedure.

It’s important to keep in mind that both LASIK and IntraLASIK are safe and effective at permanently correcting eyesight. But those who are worried about risks can relax knowing that their procedure is being performed with the latest technology.

At Boothe Laser Center, Dr. William Boothe performs both LASIK and IntraLASIK, and has more experience than any other surgeon in the world. If you have questions about the procedure, you can arrange for a free consultation and review your concerns with Dr. Boothe.

Common Contact Lens Problems

10/09/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

Contact lenses were once seen as the carefree alternative to glasses. For many, they offer better vision and an improvement in quality of life. However, not everyone with contacts is so lucky.

Many people who wear contacts experience dry eyes, irritation, and headaches. These are common complaints that can often be fixed by switching back to glasses, which is usually something the patient doesn’t want to do. Contact lenses also come with a risk of corneal ulcers and infection. In rare cases, infection can lead to loss of vision.

So what can you do if you need vision correction, but glasses are uncomfortable or impractical because of your active life?
Many people who don’t want to be tied down by their glasses or contacts any more have found that LASIK vision correction is the answer. With LASIK, you undergo a simple outpatient procedure that will permanently correct your vision. If you are interested in knowing more about the LASIK procedure, come in to Boothe Laser Center for a free consultation with Dr. William Boothe. After reviewing your questions, you can decide if LASIK is your best option.

Banish Fear of LASIK by Knowing the Facts

10/04/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

LASIK is a safe, out-patient procedure that has helped millions see better, without glasses or contacts. However, some people are still apprehensive about the idea of eye surgery. While this is understandable, there are some fears that can be put to rest.
Many people are uncomfortable with the idea of being awake during the procedure. This can be helped by knowing that you will receive a mild sedative, if you wish, prior to your surgery. You will also get numbing eye drops, and won’t experience any discomfort during surgery. The entire procedure just lasts a few minutes, and you’ll be done.
The idea of having a laser touch the eye can also make some people uncomfortable. During LASIK, the laser that removes tissue to improve your vision only touches your eyes for a few seconds on each eye. It pulses, so there is no heat buildup to cause discomfort.

Another thing that worries some patients is that they may blink or won’t be able to hold still during the procedure. Again, the sedative helps with this. Also, your eyelids are held open during the procedure, so you won’t be able to blink. And the laser is programmed to track your eye, so that, in the off chance that you do move, it won’t turn on.

If you have any other fears or questions about LASIK, the best thing to do is to review them with a qualified surgeon to put your mind at ease. You can schedule your free consultation with Dr. Boothe at Boothe Laser Center to discuss your questions and find out if LASIK is right for you.

Are Contact Lenses Safe for Your Eyes?

10/02/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

Contact lenses are a convenient way to correct your vision, but any time you put something in your eye, you have a risk of damage to your eye and of infection. Just how safe are your contact lenses?

Even when cared for properly, contact lenses can introduce bacteria and fungus into your eye. Both of these can cause infections. And it’s possible to get these bacteria from improperly cleaned lenses, or from a bottle of solution that’s been contaminated. In fact, every few years there are recalls of popular lens solutions, due to contamination issues at the factories. Many lawsuits over the past decade have named contact lens and solution manufacturers as responsible for damage to eyes and loss of sight.

The best thing you can do to protect yourself against these infections is to stop wearing contacts. If you have blurry vision and need correction to see, that means either switching to glasses, or having your vision permanently corrected with LASIK eye surgery.
If the convenience of contacts appeals to you, LASIK surgery might be a good option. After surgery, you won’t need contacts or glasses again. You can schedule a free consultation with Dr. Boothe at Boothe Laser Center to review your vision and discuss your options for improving your vision.

Innovations in Eye Surgery – WaveFront Mapping

09/25/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A]

LASIK eye surgery has been around for many years, and has been performed hundreds of thousands of times by Dr. William Boothe. While the procedure is already safe and effective, there have been improvements made to it in recent years. One such improvement being used at Boothe Laser Center is WaveFront Mapping.

Many people have problems with their vision beyond being nearsighted, farsighted, or having astigmatism. There are imperfections that can’t be corrected with glasses, contacts, or standard LASIK. These vision problems, called higher order aberrations, can be detected and measured with a low energy laser. This measuring process is WaveFront Mapping, and it allows Dr. Boothe to pinpoint the problems with a person’s vision, and be able to correct them with IntraLASIK.

The process of WaveFront Mapping has allowed people that previously were not candidates for LASIK to be able to have their vision corrected surgically. Though this technique is more expensive than traditional LASIK, it can be worth it to those that previously had to live with imperfect vision. The cost is offset by no longer paying for glasses, contacts, and cleaning solutions. Over the course of several years, this procedure can pay for itself.

This state-of-the-art technology is offered by Dr. Boothe, who has outstanding reviews from thousands of LASIK patients. With WaveFront Mapping, Dr. Booth can more precisely correct vision, which has nearly eliminated any room for complaint. If you’ve ever been told you are not able to have LASIK eye surgery, contact Boothe Laser Center. You may be a candidate for WaveFront Mapping and the InterLASIK procedure.

Vitamins for the eyes will effectively improve your vision

04/10/12 | by admin [mail] | Categories: Announcements [A], Boothe Eye Care

Many of us have problems with vision, which could easily be avoided if we protect our eyes every day by providing the body with essential vitamins. All organs in our body need vitamins for normal functioning, some of which directly affect the quality of vision. For example, the deficit of vitamin A can cause blurred vision, but in excess, which is also unfavorable, it can cause negative effects. For good vision we also need B vitamins, vitamin C, and potassium.

Dr. William Boothe suggests that our eyes need antioxidants - vitamins that neutralize the harmful effects of free radicals. Crystalline lens and the retina are sensitive to dust and other contamination as well as the affects of free radicals and cellular processes. Antioxidant vitamins play an important role in the fight against free radicals. Vitamin A, vitamin C and vitamin E are antioxidants. These vitamins not only help protect the eyes from free radicals, but also contribute to the preservation of healthy cells and tissues of the eye.

What is necessary for maintaining healthy eyes?

Recent studies show that in addition to vitamins A, C and E to maintain healthy eyes, lutein and zeaxanthin are vital as well. They belong to the carotenoids, which are contained in the retina and lens of the eye. Unique properties of lutein are the resistance to light and the ability to accumulate in the tissues of the eye. Lutein is accumulated in the retina and forms an optical filter that protects the underlying pigment epithelium from the damaging effects of light rays, especially the violet and blue part of the light spectrum.

In addition, lutein is an effective inhibitor of free radicals in the pigment layer of the retina. In the human lens lutein and zeaxanthin are the only carotenoids, and in epithelial-cortical parts of the lens it is contained in two to three times more than in its core. Daily demand is five milligrams of lutein, and one milligram of zeaxanthin, but our diets usually contain less than 20% of normal.

A natural source of vitamins for the eyes are green leafy vegetables like cabbage and sea kale, spinach, kiwi fruit, squash, and pumpkin. However, spinach contains lutein, not only in large quantities, but it is rich in beta-carotene, vitamin C and E and other nutrients that are important to eye health. If your diet cannot provide the body with the necessary quantity of vitamins, you should take supplements of missing vitamins and minerals to maintain vision.

In order to support the body, it is especially useful to have specialized biologically active food additives, which along with vitamin and mineral complex, contain herbs that are useful for the eyes. You should observe the principle of the duration of the reception – enrich your diet with vitamins and minerals almost constantly, with a possible break in the summer months when nutrients can be obtained naturally from foods.

Dr. William Boothe is a world re-known lasik surgeon with a practice in the Plano area.
